Terrace at dusk

A single flash held against blue hour to keep both the sky and the subject.

About this frame

Blue hour gives you a sky worth keeping and almost no light to work with. Shoot it on ambient alone and you either lose the sky or lose the couple.

One light, placed close and feathered, balanced against the remaining daylight. The stone, the balustrade and the train all keep their detail, and the sky stays the colour it actually was.

  • Single light balanced to ambient
  • Location scouted for the balustrade line
  • Train arranged to lead the eye through the frame
